Hnamawknak Ruangih Hnaset
A Short Biography of Dr. Ni Khuai
Dr. Ni Khuai was the first MBBS among the Chins and the second FRCS all over Burma. He completed FRCS, Fellow of the Royal College of Surgery, with "A" Grade from Edinburgh University, England in 1955. Though he was invited by many EU countries to serve their countries with a high rate of pay, he rather chose to return to his own country and joined as Surgery Specialist in Rangoon Hospital. Later he applied for going to serve in Chin State.
U Nu, the former Prime Minister of Union of Burma and the head of Health ministry were amazed when Dr. Ni Khuai and his father submitted their application to serve in Chin State. The then Health minister even asked them thrice whether Dr. Ni Khuai really wanted to work in Chin state. As the concerned authority granted his request, he started serving as head doctor at the hospital of Falam, the former capital of Chin State, in 1957.
For Dr. Ni Khuai, there was no working timetable, but he was ready 24 hours for his patients. He respected his noble works and treated all his patients equally. He gave no preference whether the patients were un-educated, rich or poor. Due to his dedicated works, the 25-bedded hospital was increased up to 4 times. When he started to join Falam hospital, he was the only doctor in Chin State capital's hospital, but due to his hard working, there were more than 10 specialists plus 11 junior doctors, 9 sisters, 11 blue staff and 10 train nurses. There after, Falam Hospital was known as Specialist Hospital of Chin state.
The motto of Dr. Ni Khuai is: “To Serve Others.”
During his time, patients in every village in Chin State believed that they would surely be healed if they were admitted to Falam hospital or if they got Dr. Ni Khuai's treatment. The patient's faith and belief were true. Their health was recovered when they came to the hospital. Though most of the Chins were poor, all patients had a chance to get treatment as Dr. Ni Khuai was kind enough to treat them with free of cost. Moreover, he gave them free medicine, lodging as he himself hosted patients from remote villages at his own residence. He gave them food, the same food his own family used to have, clothes, moral encouragement, even lunch and money to those poor patients when they were discharged.
Dr. Ni Khuai’s patients were not only from Falam, but also from every corner of Chin State, people from delta areas and even from Mizoram. He was kind, polite, and gentle on patients as well as on his working staff. Junior doctors who used to work with Dr. Ni Khuai became famous and outstanding doctors. For his noble works and kind services, he was awarded Wunnah Kyaw Htin title. His father, Major Kap Cong, was also awarded the same title. Therefore, he was a good son who followed his father's footsteps.
He gave his time, strength, capacity and knowledge to his beloved fellow Chins, but still, some corrupted employee gave wrong reports to the authority, which made him need to transfer. The whole community at Falam, the former capital of Chin State and other parts of Chin State knew very well that he was an ideal doctor. They all knew that he was kind to every one and never corrupted.
Even elderly people could not hold their tears when they heard this bad news that Dr. Ni Khuai had to transfer from Chin state to another place. Due to the people's request, he could not leave Chin State easily. Individuals, organizations, church leaders, community leaders etc.. visited Dr. Ni Khuai and begged him not to leave them but he had to. Every villager of the high way between Falam, Kalay Myo, and Sagaing stood on the roadside with flowers and cultural dresses to show their sorrow of losing such a kind and noble man.
Though Dr. Ni Khuai knew those corrupted men who reported him, he gave no bad response or never tried to revenge them. Instead, he even prepared a special dinner for them with prayer. When he was working in Mandalay Hospital and other parts of delta areas of Burma, the Burmans said, "Thanks to the Chins for giving us such a good, kind, expert, and ideal doctor."

Freedom From Deception

- They are committed to other God (Ex. 32:6).
