"The Christian life is closely parallel. If our being a
Christian is solely a means to get to heaven and avoid hell, we've missed
something vitally important. Eternal life begins now, we are in Christ Jesus
now. We have his peace, his love, his presence, in the midst of whatever pain
and suffering we encounter in this life. We need to rejoice in the Lord always,
not only when things are going well; we need to focus on His presence, His joy,
His overcoming of the world, even -- rather, especially -- when the world seems
to be bearing down on us." _
