A remedy for bitterness

We all face some kinds of problems, disappointment, and anger. If we embrace that bitterness and hatred and let them take root in our hearts, they will poison our lives. We need to let them go away from us so that they may not be hanging over us. Then, how do we let them go? There is a remedy for bitterness. That is "forgiveness." Forgive the one who hurts you as Jesus said on the cross, "Father, forgive them as they don't know what they are doing." Sometimes people hurt us just because they don't know how rude, unjust, and painful their action is towards others. When they know, they will not be the same. Again, some people hurt us knowingly. If so, leave a room for God's judgment and revenge. The Lord our God said that revenge is mine but not yours.

Rom. 12:17 Do not repay anyone evil for evil, but take thought for what is noble in the sight of all.
Rom. 12:18 If it is possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all.
Rom. 12:19 Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave room for the wrath of God; for it is written, “Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord.”

Forgiveness is not just for others but also for us. As God forgives our mistakes, shortcomings, weakness, and embraces us as we are, we must forgive ourselves as well. A person once said that the most meaningless thing that we do in the world is to hate ourselves. Remember the Lord is our shepherd who grieves when we hate ourselves. God never blames us but helps us to get over all sins and shames.

If you forgive yourself and others, the unceasing river of God's joy and freedom will flow in your heart and life. Let us liberate ourselves from every poison by forgiving others and ourselves.
